nicolemarriee Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Has anyone else received a letter from the University of Maine inviting them to apply to their Masters's program?? I got a letter in the mail saying they were intersted in me and my application would get special attention in the review process..Granted, I believe this is just a bait letter to try and get me to apply and pay the application fee, but just wanted to check and see if anyone else got one??
TheMonkeyOnMyBack Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Is there an email address in the letter? If so you could try writing to them and ask if there is a fee waver with their invitation to apply. It stands to reason that if they are interested in you that they might wave your app fee.
koalalover1 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I got this too! But they used the wrong name at the end, so I felt like this is kind of a way to get me to pay the application fee. I wonder how they got our information?
TakeruK Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 After registering for the GRE, I forgot to uncheck some box on the application form and so I accidentally consented to ETS sharing my information with a bunch of programs that "I might be interested in" and I got many emails and snail mail invitations to apply like this one. But it sounds like you are at least getting invitations from programs in your field (I wrote the Physics GRE and got invitations to MBA programs?!). I think @TheMonkeyOnMyBack has the right approach---if the interest is mutual, it won't hurt to ask if they have a fee waiver.
