Me too! I applied to both the MSW and MPA. I read on the MSW website that they don't start sending out decisions until 1/16, so we still have a few days! Good Luck

Hi! I'm glad to see this thread exists! I am in the same boat, applied 12/15 and now nervously awaiting the results. Would you mind posting your stats? I'm mostly worried about the GRE (wondering how much emphasis they put on it, especially the math section). Thanks and good luck! :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the GRE scores. Their website says the average for both verbal and quant is 50th percentile. They didn't even mention the writing section. If I remember correctly from the info sessions, they really place more emphasis on the SOP and LORs. Good luck, TeaTime!!

Hey there - I was just admitted today! Very relieved. FWIW, my quantitative GRE score was below the average, though my verbal was much higher than the average.

@ljo377 thanks so much for all your info! that's when I submitted too so fingers crossed that I will hear soon. Did you hear from email and then they had you check the portal?

Posted

@TeaTime23 yep; I got an email that my admissions decision was ready and to check the portal. (of course I was driving to work so I was anxious to check the whole drive until I got there!)

Ah, that sounds like torture! I've had my email window up all day and have logged into the portal several a few times to see if there's anything there. Also a 12/15 applicant here. I am excited to see decisions are being sent out. Hopefully we hear soon, TeaTime!

I'll be visiting campus to check out the SSW and the School of Government next weekend. Excited because I've never set foot in NC before! If anyone has tips/thoughts on this program, let me know!

Hi kayaker! Their site has a wealth of knowledge (I'm sure you've devoured it already), so I don't have much to add. I was so impressed at the info session last November, though. More than anything, I felt like the program presents students with many different opportunities (micro v. macro and numerous certifications), versus boxing people in on particular tracks.

Chapel Hill is a great place to live, too. The neighborhood around the SSW is very beautiful (lots of grad student housing, too) and a very short walk to Franklin Street and Carrboro. Hope you enjoy your tour. :)

Awesome, thanks for the info! Are you committed to UNC this fall or are you still looking elsewhere? I've been admitted and am trying hard to decide between UNC and UT-Austin. Maybe we'll be future classmates!

I am still waiting to hear back, but really, really hope I get in. I don't know anything about UT, but do love living in a coastal state. NC will give you the beach and mountains, and RDU is close for travel. I'm originally from Southern California but have really come to enjoy living here. I'll keep my fingers crossed for being classmates. ;)

Oh! I will say that people generally start looking for housing around this time, so if you can look at a few places or check out some neighborhoods while you're hear that may be good. Craigslist is kind of overwhelming, but chapelhillrent.com is a bit more user-friendly. Millsrentals.com has some good stuff, too!

Ah, keeping my fingers crossed for you too! And thanks for the tips about housing! I haven't really even begun to think about that process, but I'm excited for the lower cost of living (currently paying NYC rent...NO MORE! lol)

Hey @kayaker7235 - congrats on being admitted to the SSW! I assume you might be in town to interview for the MPA program as well? I have an interview next Friday and am potentially interested in the dual degree program (though not sure if the cost of an additional year is worthwhile). Supposedly there will be some social events during the interview weekend; PM me if you want to try to meet up. I've studied, worked, lived in Chapel Hill/Durham for the past 9 years.

Thank you! And yes, that's right. Congrats on your interview too! I didn't realize there were any social events that weekend; good to know! I'll PM you.

Hi all -- current UNC Social Work student here. Happy to try and answer any questions you might have regarding the SSW. Feel free to PM me as well. Good luck with your applications -- and congratulations to those already accepted. UNC is a great program!

I was admitted this afternoon and couldn't be more excited!  My application was complete on January 1st. I wasn't expecting to hear back this early! Good luck to people still waiting to hear!

You heard so quickly @caitmcguire! My application was complete on December 15th and I still haven't heard :(

I'm getting very anxious since I haven't heard from any of the four programs I've applied to. Congrats on your acceptance and hopefully the rest of us will hear good news soon! :)
