Question

Posted (edited)

Hi,

I got admitted into Michigan's EE Masters program, thesis option yesterday. However, I can't afford Michigan's out of state for the life of me - I'd wipe away my savings in literally a semester (Texas resident).

I'm wondering if anyone knows the process for applying to RA positions? Is it something you do after accepting an offer, or before? Is it really just emailing professors with similar interests as yours and asking for the availability of funded RA positions (which I know are predominantly left for PhD students)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Oscar

This process changes depending on the school and department. I suggest you write back to whoever sent you the admissions email (assuming it's someone in your prospective department) to ask about funding options. You can explicitly ask whether there are any RA or TA positions that might be available to MS students and what the application process would entail.
