Shoneimal Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Hi everyone! I am an applicant of the Chemistry PhD program at UC-Davis. On Feb. 4th, I was informed that I was admitted to the Chemistry PhD by the Graduate Office of UC-Davis. However, I did not receive an email from the department of chemistry of UC-Davis previously and many other applicants did receive a letter/email of admission offer from the department of chemistry as well. I have emailed the gradadmin of the department but they were extremely busy at the time. I am just afraid that something might go wrong. So I am very curious to see that if someone else in the forum have also encountered a similar situation. Thanks a lot!
Orgo for days Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Hey man, I know the grad school process is stressful, but I can guarantee you that the wait is over now--you're in! The whole process is very informal, so a lot of the more "official" notices of admission tend to come after the informal acceptances. Don't worry about it, your letter will come.
MisterE Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) Hmm not sure, I was admitted and received an informal acceptance, then the visitation information, then a formal letter of acceptance. The first (I think it's the first anyhow) visitation weekend is this Thursday. I would try to contact them again if you wanted to be sure, but as long as you have received the first informal bit then I would think you were good. Edited February 14, 2016 by MisterE

Thank you for your kind email and I wish everything will be good

I only received the formal letter from the graduate admission office instead of the department.
MisterE Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hmm, well I think that's still a good sign you got in for sure. Bradley Wolf has been the contact I've seen on all the emails so that would seem like the person to contact if you wanted to make sure, he's the Chemistry Graduate Affairs Officer I believe.

Are you also an applicant of the Chemistry PhD program at UC-Davis? May I ask you about the date of receiving the informal acceptance, the visitation information and the formal letter of acceptance? Thanks a lot!

PhD program there, more specifically applied for inorganic/materials. Informal was 1/15, letter was 1/28, visit invite was with the informal where they gave me a link to sign up/pick which groups I wanted to meet.

MisterE Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Then I would try again to contact their grad dept. The contact I have seen so far was Bradley Wolf, so I would try to contact him as he seems to be the coordinator for the accepted Chem Grad Students if you want to find out about another visit or your acceptance.http://chemistry.ucdavis.edu/staff/brad_wolf.html Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks a lot! I made a telephone call to Mr. Wolf and he told me that my unofficial letter about funding information from the department will be sent to me soon.

Thanks for your advice! I have received the admission letter about funding from the department of chemistry. But the way, may I ask you when we can apply for the campus housing?
