philstudent1991 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 At the end of the semester I will be moving, maybe to a PhD program, but more likely back home with my parents. I don't have a car, but I have too much stuff to take on a plane. Has anyone here had a similar situation? Any tips on moving cheaply without just packing and shipping todos de mis chismes?

Sell anything that's not a hard-to-find book or item of high sentimental value. Especially if you're going back into an already furnished house. Media mail the books. Get drunk and burn anything you can't ship or sell (not inside). Wear a mask if you own a lot of plastic, and maybe consider burning the stuff somewhere useful, like outside City Hall or your university president's mansion. Only the last sentence is facetious. NathanKellen Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 When I moved I used a container shipping company (it was a division of UPS). It was pretty expensive but super convenient. But I had a lot of stuff. If you don't have much stuff, then I recommend shipping the essentials via flat-rate USPS and signing up for an airline credit card to get a free (huge) bag check on every flight. Then pack everything into that bag every time you go back and forth, slowly bringing things to wherever you're going.
