coasts Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 It seems like it's well worth traveling to schools for their admit/visit days as it's an opportunity to really see how much we like the school, staff, other students, and surrounding community. At the same time, all the travel can add up! Has anyone been successful in getting a school to provide some financial support/reimbursement for these expenses? I know it's common for PhD programs but not sure about Master's...
RCtheSS Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 This will depend on the program/university. Minnesota Humphrey openly states that they'll reimburse travel costs to their admitted student day event for anyone traveling over 150 miles, up to $300. If a program isn't advertising this option, you may have to contact the program coordinator or admissions director to ask about this possibility. The worst they can say is, "no". WhatAmIDoingNow 1
wcw Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I went to New Admit Day at HKS last year, and received $400 to defer the costs (I was flying in from the West Coast). No other program I applied to had offered financial help to visit.
Guest SIPA_MPA18 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I got an email from Duke Sanford saying they will reimburse up to $100 for travel costs.
Guest SIPA_MPA18 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Columbia SIPA told me today they do not offer any sort of travel assistance.
coasts Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Looks like Carnegie Mellon Heinz offers up to $200 for ground transportation reimbursement and $350 for air.
Windmills Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Indiana University Bloomington's SPEA (for MPA-MSES) also reimburses up to $300. But you have to apply for it (simply send them your resume and transcript).
