DarkMeowQueen Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 For those people who have been NSF awardees, do they contact you before announcing the awards in April? Do you get interviewed or any other confirmation?
Neist Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I think they just batch notify everyone somewhere around April 1 (it's historically always very close it). We got a month or so to go. The crazy part is that they're probably finalizing awardees pretty soon. I mean, they notify everyone, all 20,000 or so applicants, at nearly exactly the same time. I imagine that decisions have to be made a little bit before that point to line up paperwork.
schoolpsych_hopeful Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Neist is correct, awardees find out the same time as everyone else. No interviews or other confirmation (besides an email).
littlemoondragon Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Be sure to check your spam, because the NSF announcement email says stuff like 'congratulations', 'you are the recipient', etc.

Unless it's changed? Subject line when I got it was "YEAR NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Competition Result". Body had a congratulatory email. Depends if your spam filters are subject line or anything else, but you can always just white-list the NSF email address (info@nsfgrfp.org).
fuzzylogician Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 For what it's worth, I heard that I was getting the NSF dissertation improvement grant a few months before it was official. My advisor got an email from the program director. I don't know how normal that is.
Eigen Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Not sure about for the DDIGs, but not normal for the GRFP. Even my institutions program officer (who was very well connected at the NSF) didn't know until the announcement.

Mine said "YEAR NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Notification". So, you're correct, the filter is on the body.
