English GRE Subject Test

I'm going to apply to some PhD programs in English for Fall 2017. But I have to be honest about something. I'm a bit nervous about the English GRE subject test.

One of my top schools requests it, and I want to be as competitive as possible. I'm just scared because I have no idea how on earth I will prepare for this exam or how long I should be preparing for it. Should I perhaps wait for the Fall 2018 cycle so I can devote more time to this exam? 

I did have some fellow colleagues tell me to forgo on this one school, but a lot of my programs highly recommend it.

Be sure to check out what ETS (the publisher of the test) has to say about it. This practice exam and document should be your primary source of info. There may be companies out there writing practice exams that could give you supplemental practice, but the ETS practice test will be most like the exam you actually take.
