duchampienne Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I can't find anything about their program. Is anyone currently enrolled or interested in it? I received a pretty good funding situation that I will most likely end up taking, but I am still waiting to hear back from some other schools. Just looking for general reviews/experiences/placement after the program etc. Really anything! turner 1
nutella Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Congrats! I was accepted in UMASS as well and would also like to hear more about the program. turner 1
turner Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Congrats, everyone! I'm in the same boat as both of you. Just out of curiosity, what are your areas of interest?
nutella Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 @turner Congrats as well! I'm interested in early modern Italy. Are you thinking of attending UMASS?
turner Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I am strongly considering attending. I'm a little apprehensive about committing to a program that does not require a masters thesis, but their graduates seem to place well without one.
LuG Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) Hey guys -- congratulation first! I am currently enrolled in the UMass Amherst program. I do believe they have a graduate program handbook posted on the website, which lists all the requirements and possibilities. The program doesn't require a thesis to graduate, though you can definitely replace your major field essay exam with a "publishable paper" -- I know someone who did it and it went well. But even without a thesis, the program is REALLY SOLID. And because the grad student body is so small, you have endless attention from almost every single faculty. Let me know if you have more questions. Strongly recommend the program if you are interested in having an extraordinarily strong foundation of broad art history knowledge.
