Resources for writing a research proposal?

I'm applying to PhD's in the UK this year (Oxford/Cambridge), and they require a concrete research proposal.

Any recommended resources for writing a good research proposal? Any good sample research proposals to look at?

Here are three resources I found helpful. I successfully used them when applying to four UK PhD programs (Scotland and England).
