HigherEdPsych Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Do they exist? If so, what does the job market look like for someone with such a degree? And, does anyone have any experience in transferring those credits to a PhD program?
namarie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I'm sure there are online programs, but the problem with them is that they don't typically offer hands-on research experience that is absolutely vital to PhD programs. Not having that experience is a big turn-off for doctorate programs.
MarineBluePsy Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 They also rarely offer hands-on clinical training and tell students to seek out opportunities on their own. That's very difficult to do when programs are accustomed to working within rigorous standards created by licensing boards and brick and mortar programs. When talking with graduate level professors in psychology and other areas of social science the consensus is that most of these programs are "less than" which is not what an applicant wants an admissions committee thinking when viewing their application. namarie 1
