Advice for URM Splitter - Biostat PhD

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm applying to biostat phd programs this Fall.  I have solid GRE scores (168Q, 165V), but a low undergraduate GPA (~3.1) in biomed engineering from a top tier school (think Stanford, MIT, Caltech). I'm a URM and first gen college student from a low socioeconomic background.  I'm 5 years out of undergrad and work as a software engineer, so I have quite a bit of programming experience.  I didn't know I had a strong interest in stats until I started working in the data science arena.  While I enjoy doing applied work in industry, I'm more interested in building a career in research.  Any advice on program choice?

Thanks in advance for the help :)
