Alyspeechie Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 So, I got accepted to Texas Women's University and I'm out-of-state from New Jersey. I eventually plan on returning to NJ after grad school, so I'm not sure if it would be worth it buying a car for only two years. However, I hear public transport is horrible in Texas. Do roommates share a car? Should I use uber or rent a car?
Speechster Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Things are too spaced out in texas to not have a car in my opinion. Buy or lease a car. Uber and renting will add up way too quickly, and you may have to drive far for externships. You may be able to scrape by for a while depending on if you do an on campus clinic, but you will definitely need your own transportation!
CBG321 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I would get a used car that you buy locally (in Texas) for 2 years and then sell again when you move back home. Most people wouldn't be willing to share cars, people tend to be pretty protective of them/need them themselves in areas where a car is necessary. You can find a pretty affordable option that would outweigh the cost and benefits of public transportation for 2 years.
