appletoapple Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Hello! Im currently a rising senior biopsychology major, looking to apply to Teachers College for masters, only to realize they only allow applicants to apply to one program per cycle. I hope to end up in a Social Psychology PhD program where I research social neuroscience. However, I don't have sufficient background in neuroscience (1 semester of neuroimaging lab and 2 neuro courses). Do you think it would be more beneficial to apply to Neuroscience and Education program to gain more neuro background? or should I just apply to Education in Psychology (general psychology) if I want to end up in the field of psychology? Thanks for your help!
pink_freud Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I would recommend emailing the director of the masters' programs and inquiring there directly. Be completely honest about what you hope to gain from the program and what your background is, and where you hope to go in the future. They would be able to provide you better advice, especially since the psychology and neuroscience divide has become blurred in recent years. Gvh 1
appletoapple Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 alright, will do! Thank you for your advice
rolextwelve Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I completed my BS in biopsychology. A few of my classmates went onto neuroscience graduate programs and are doing very well. Some of my classmates that completed a BA in psychology also went onto neuroscience programs and that major only required two biological courses. One in general biology and one in psychobiology. I think you'll be fine.
