xXIDaShizIXx Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 (edited) Hello, I was wondering what your guys' opinion on the Doctor of Social Work was? Specifically for someone that works in human services for the government, would there be a reason to pursue such a degree? Are do you think that the DSW is just a marketing ploy for those that want a doctorate? Edited June 10, 2016 by xXIDaShizIXx
htotheizza Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 It is a great degree for advancing your career. I have had a very positive response to my being a student in such a program. Only challenge is that you have to pay out of pocket. xXIDaShizIXx 1
OliG Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) It's interesting. Starting in the 1990s, social work schools were abandoning the DSW in droves. In fact, school like Columbia and Fordham retroactively upgraded previously conferred DSWs to PhDs without any additional work which was very scandalous among long-standing PhD programs. So it's unclear why they're going back. Edited August 5, 2016 by OliG xXIDaShizIXx 1
xXIDaShizIXx Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 Thank you guys. It does seem to be helpful to the people that obtain it. The people that don't seem to gripe about it though, due to the cost.
