psycholinguist Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I got admitted! The University of Iowa, MA program with thesis. I am so excited right now. I really wasn't expecting to hear anything from them for weeks - the deadline was just today! Still no word on financial aid, but I can wait. It's good enough just knowing that someone wants me. Hey, congrats!

pointaken Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Just got an email from Georgetown, admitting me into Linguistics with a Concentration in Language and Communication. Problem is, I didn't apply for their MLC program...so I got an email 5 minutes later admitting me into the program I actually applied for. Second acceptance!

psycholinguist Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 YAY! GOOOOOO Psycholinguist! I'm glad we both did well in our second attempts! I know, eh? Armed (and dangerous) with extra experience. We should form a successful-linguistics-applicant ninja-squad. How's your decision-making going (uh, provided that there was any decision-making to be done, that is)? Off to join fuzzylogician and company? * grins *

Though I wonder what kind of targets a person would have in mind when employing a successful-linguistics-applicant ninja-squad. Prescriptivists? I just mailed in my decision to attend MIT today. I visited both schools, and it was interesting to see their similarities and differences (and also compare to my current school) but I feel pretty good about my choice. And then people who ask us how many languages we speak. So glad! Congrats on the decision! That is AWESOME!!!! Congratulations !! Thank you so much! I'm so excited that I haven't stopped jumping up and down yet. * jumps up and down *
Bumblebee Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm in Hispanic Linguistics, but Linguistics after all. I just made my decision and accepted Indiana's offer. I was rejected by Ohio State, Florida State and Penn State, and got admitted at Georgetown (without funding) and UMass Amherst (with full funding). Indiana offered me full funding+summer fellowship. And they guaranteed funds for 2 years of MA and 5 more years if I continue to PhD (which I will). Soooo happy!!! Congratulations to those who already made their decision and good luck to those in the waiting list or those who cannot make up their mind. I'm sure you'll end up somewhere great!
pointaken Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I sent in my decision today. University of Illinois Class of 2012! I visited Columbia and really didn't like it--New York is not for me. Georgetown's program was expensive and has no funding for M.S. students (and also lacked any sort of practical component). Illinois had the best mix of practice and theory and also I spoke with the coordinator and he said that pretty much 100% of domestic students get a TAship by their second year (which includes some tuition remission and stipend). So thanks for the lovely conversation--and good luck to 2011 applicants!
