I'm having a really hard time making this decision and I feel like everyone I know is biased. Basically, I got into audiology school across the country and I also just got promoted at work. My new position is something I can do from anywhere and will put me up at 55k to work from home. My work said they were ok with me taking classes but I don't think they realize how limited my hours might be during the week. Although it's salary and my hours are supposedly flexible, I'm worried about starting this new position and losing the opportunity to keep the job as a back up plan. Now I've been approved to be able to defer for a year which would mean I could save money for a year, get used to this new job, spend time with my family here and marry my fiancé. School means I'll be separated from my fiancé for 2 years. We've been together for 4 and I'm sure we'll be ok but there's a chance if I defer that I might be able to only be apart for 1 year instead depending on her residency program but it's most likely going to be 2 years apart eventually no matter what, just either now or in a year. I don't know if I should just go now and try it out. pros: my best friend is there, be in school, get to do things I love like snowboarding etc, finish in 3 years with a career and an audiology degree so I'll be sure to be ok no matter what. Cons: be away from my family and fiancé, might not manage my new job well with everything at once (I'm usually a great worker though), separate my cats for 2 years, I'll be financially strained the first month or so but then ok, might not be able to get married next year. Cons of staying are that those who know me really well think I might get comfortable and happy here with the job and wedding and family and never go. Which means if something happens with this company or job later, I'm out of luck. Granted, I do have a masters degree so I don't think I'd be horribly off, I might lose out on the great place I found although whose to say I wouldn't have a nicer one next year. I wouldn't be able to see my best friend before she leaves for PTschool. I'll be behind a year in life basically, also graduate 2 years after my fiancé instead of 1 (the school I'm going to is accelerated). There's a lot to consider and I just don't know what to do! Any ideas?

In your case, I'd defer. Starting a new job and starting a new grad program are both huge events in life. Taking on both at the same time is incredibly difficult. I worry that both the program and the job will suffer if you're trying to put in 40 hours a week at each. If you really want an audiology degree, you'll go back for it when the timing is better. Don't listen to what others have to say about that because you know yourself and your dedication to this field and career path.
