Old Dominion University is undergoing a burst of expansion.  Two positions are currently open in the Sociology and Criminology department, and three positions are open in the Cybersecurity department (affiliated with the Sociology and Criminology department).

Given the geographic area, student body, and the area of interest within the Sociology and Criminology department, minority candidates are encouraged to apply.  I've posted both positions below.

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice seeks applicants for two Assistant Professor positions to begin August 2017. These positions are designed to support the Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice as well as the M.A. in Sociology and Bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice and in Sociology. All areas of research expertise will be considered, with special consideration given to those who study some aspect of the criminal justice system such as law, policing, courts, and corrections; and/or inequality and public policy. A Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, sociology or directly related fields, and a demonstrated ability to conduct research, publish, and teach in criminology/criminal justice are required. Candidates that are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the degree must be completed by August 2017.

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice has an accomplished, collaborative and diverse faculty and student body. Opportunities exist to participate in the University's Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, the Department of Women's Studies, and the Institute for Community Justice. Successful candidates should have demonstrated evidence of working collaboratively with diverse populations.

Old Dominion University is a residential and research-extensive public institution with a student enrollment of 25,000 including approximately 6,000 graduate students, and a full time equivalent diverse and multicultural faculty of over 800. The university's primary campus is located in Norfolk, VA, one of the seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia, a major recreational area with a population of 1.7 million. Programs are also offered at three Higher Educational Centers in the region and at Distant Learning sites across the state and across the nation.

To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, Statement of Research Interests, Statement of Teaching Philosophy and contact information for three professional references to https://jobs.odu.edu/. Review of applications will begin October 1 and continue until the position is filled. Inquiries regarding the position should be directed to Dr. Randy Myers ( RRMYERS@odu.edu). More information about the department is available at http://al.odu.edu/sociology.
