lollygag Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Hi everyone! I've searched around the forum for information about Milano (especially the urban policy program) and while a few people have asked about it, nobody seems to respond. I've only seen two brief comments about it possibly not having as good a reputation as NYU. So, here's one more try: does anyone know anything about the quality of the program, how it compares to NYU or Baruch (i'm only looking at schools in NYC right now), or how graduates fair in the job market (NYC and beyond). Thanks!
mppboog Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I am wondering about this also as I have applied. I went to a reception that they hosted in my area and met the Dean and some alumni. Overall, I had a good impression but agree that it is hard to get in a general feeling about the program especially on here.

But it's just strange that I can't really find anyone who can speak to their program, neither current nor former students, nor students at other programs who've heard about the program at Milano and can speak to it. Weird.

Weird. I've known several people who have attended or are currently attending Milano and they all love it. Truth be told, the school has a lot of part-timers who are working full-time salaried positions in the field. From what I hear Milano offers very practical training in the field of public policy, often having students do real group consultant projects. Milano is definitely well respected and while New School undergrad (Eugene Lange) and other colleges within the school have interesting reputations, Milano sort of separates itself and maintains a solid reputation. NS may not have the prestige of some other schools, but in terms of getting hired after grad in NYC--I think any dedicated graduate will do well in the job market. This is just my 2 cents tho mppboog 1
mppboog Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I keep hearing similar comments, esp about it providing pratical knowledge and being respected by those working in the field. Keep the comments coming everyone!

I'm very curious about how this will affect the core requirements, the program structure, and it's reputation.
HOUBMA Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Just to add my two cents. I have heard Milano is an excellent place for policy, since a friend of mine now goes there. He says that the faculty and students all seem very driven. However, when considering whether the program has as much prestige as NYU or CUNY, it must be known that NYU has a lot of "empty glory." I have heard horror stories about the undergraduate program there, however, I feel that NYU Wagner is considered prestigious simply because its NYU... Therefore, I would say go for Milano... Its a great school, but to me it just doesn't have the "name brand" NYU has.
Latty23 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I also got accepted to the Urban Policy Analysis & Mgmt program at Milano and I am really excited. Nervous, but looking forward to it. Good Luck everyone.

I'm very curious about how this will affect the core requirements, the program structure, and it's reputation. They will be under a new division but the existing degree programs will remain the same.
