Early Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I notice many of you, like me, are interested in studying religion. I was just curious as to what type of research you have done or would like to do? I suppose this is a good starting point, and hopefully a decent distraction from the wait.
Roll Right Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Im working on a thesis that examines religiosity and ses. I dont want to go into too much detail here, as Id like to publish it. But Im mainly interested in how religion is affected by material conditions. Also, I do a bit on identity formation and lived experiences, especially when dealing with transcendental experiences.
maximus82 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I did my undergraduate thesis in religious studies about Hinduism in Latin America, especially the Sai Baba Movement in Colombia. As a graduate student I'd like to study the ways in which immigrants use religion to connect in new countries and to keep/strengthen ties to their home counties. I'm also interested in the way religion travels and the connection between income and religious affiliation.

I'm looking forward to research that throws light on how well religious organizations and families meet needs documented by William Glasser.
jacib Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) I'm looking forward to research that throws light on how well religious organizations and families meet needs documented by William Glasser. Secularism, civil religion, secularization. How political groups can adopt quasi-religious beliefs. My undergraduate thesis was in the vein of J. Z. Smith's Drudgery Divine and Tomoko Masuzawa's The Invention of World Religion in that it focused on an almost universal Protestant bias in the study of religions. Edited January 22, 2010 by jacib
Early Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 I've been working a lot with secularization and spirituality lately. I think we all have plans to publish, so I understand being hesitant. Though I would hope no one would steal research ideas (especially on an interwebz forum), sounds kind of stupid on a number of levels.
sweet symphony Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I've worked mostly on secularization, de-secularization, religion and nationalism as well as religion and national/political identity. It's really cool to see other people interested in this area of research. Good luck with the publications to everyone.
