opre Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Got accepted into Columbia recently. I didn't receive an interview request. Credit Risk & Derivatives (hopefully covers CCDS), Term Structure Models, Vol Smiles, and Data Analysis will be practical. Courses on Machine Learning and Perception also seem worthwhile once my programming improves (a lot). what is the CCDS?
testarossa Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 what is the CCDS? contingent credit default swaps i guess ...
diredingo Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010
what is the CCDS?
Yes, contingent credit default swaps, as testarossa mentioned. Swaptions on CDS, in other words.
iwotic Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 What did you tell Columbia when they called? I just told them that Columbia is one of my top choice. And I am choosing between Columbia and another place. (which is Cornell but I didn't tell them that)
testarossa Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Yes, contingent credit default swaps, as testarossa mentioned. Swaptions on CDS, in other words. So have you decided where are you going next year yet ?
18apples Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Just got admit from Penn state into their IE program m. Eng with option for a dual degree in Operations research as well. Any thought on how good this course will be compared to Cornell or Columbia?
muffinstardust Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 If there are any people out there who have received offers from U of Michigan-Ann Arbor (IOE) or Boston U (SE) but are not going to accept them, can they please report their decisions to these schools ASAP? I am waitlisted and dreaming every day that I'll find an admission mail from these two in my inbox.
iwotic Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I am wondering why people don't really talk about Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley MS program here? It seems like the top school a lot of people apply to for the MS program are : MIT,Princeton,Stanford, Cornell, Columbia How are Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley MS program compared to those mentioned above? (In term of reputation and difficulty of getting in)

So if I don't choose it hopefully you'll get an admit!
menoninblack Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Is anyone applying for manufacturing/SCM/logistics ? I'm an International applicant to a non thesis program. I'm finding it hard to decide between Umich Ann Arbor and Gatech for MS IE, How are both for SCM? Does anyone have an Idea of what is a better place to be .. Atlanta or Ann Arbor for IE Jobs, Interns? Would the economy in MI be a deciding factor for an aspirant (for manufacturing)? Gatech seems very rigid in terms of coursework.., also doesn't seem like I can go to the B school for free electives.. which I know is a possibility at UMich's Ross B-School. Also I hear that gatech is more research oriented with while Umich is more business/industry focussed..any thoughts on that?

(In term of reputation and difficulty of getting in) Cal's IEOR program is super hard to get in (even harder than Stanford, Cornell, Columbia).... GA Tech, similar to Columbia, generates a lot of complaint that the intake is too big and class size is too big also. But their OR (ISyE department) is ranked No.1.
Moha Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, Does anyone here still waiting for Purdue? Up to now, they didn't make any decision about my application, is this usual? Edited April 11, 2010 by Moha
ryanb519 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Has anyone on here applied to the SIE Department at University of Arizona? Seems like they have interesting courses and research. I've applied for the MSIE and I should hear back from them within a couple weeks. Just wondering what their typical admissions requirements look like. Thanks!
Scaevola Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hi guys, Does anyone here still waiting for Purdue? Up to now, they didn't make any decision about my application, is this usual? You may be on the waitlist. Purdue did not anounce the financial aid results and I assume that accepted people are waiting for financial aid to submit their response to the offer of admission. If you check the results section, there are a number of admits. I was also accepted, but there is still no update on the financial aid decisions. They were claiming that they will anounce financial aid decisions on or before April 13th. I emailed them twice about financial aid status but they did not return my messages. Tomorrow is the deadline for financial aid anouncements. Let's see if anything comes up. Your status may be determined after this date as well.
ORhopeful Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I am on the Columbia waitlist for MS OR Columbia told you that you are on the waitlist ??
18apples Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Columbia told you that you are on the waitlist ?? yes i received an email from them saying so

leslie7622 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Hi guys, Does anyone here still waiting for Purdue? Up to now, they didn't make any decision about my application, is this usual? Hi Moha, I have the same situation as you. According to my application status check, my application is still "under review". I emailed Sandy the graduate coordinator if they received all my requirements and she replied that they did and that I should keep on checking my application status. . This really really worries me too. I did pretty well on the GRE and although my translated GPA didn't seem that high I thought they would consider the fact that I graduated with honors from the arguably the best school in my country and that translating to a 4 pt GPA is fraught with errors. Oh well, I've pretty much given up on Purdue... but a little part of me still keeps on hoping..

Scaevola Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hi leslie, According to the Scaevola, I think they will announce the results very soon, I wish us get the good news! It's past April 13th and they haven't finalized their decisions on financial aid and as I see from your posts, they haven't finalized admission decisions as well. According to the following web page, they claimed that "For the Fall semester applications, the applicants selected for admission and/or financial aid will be notified on or before April 13." https://ias.itap.purdue.edu/gradsch/PROGRAM_INSTRUCTIONS/e27_1.html There was a similar statement in the admit letter, but for some reason they are later than this date, but they do not provide any information when the decisions will be finalized.
