DJLamar Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Ok, I just thought of something. At CMU, I applied to two different PhD programs: Machine Learning and Language and Information Technologies. Will I just get one letter from CMU listing to which programs I was accepted/rejected, or will I perhaps get two separate letters, possibly on completely different days and times, one for each program? Unless they're somehow connected, I doubt you'd get the notifications at the same time. Around the same time probably, but departments make their choices independently (and then the University rubber stamps the department's choices).
DJLamar Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Well, they are both in the School of Computer Science. I used the same application to apply to both (as in the only extra thing I had to do was select another item on a form and pay an extra $50). palindrome 1
palindrome Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I applied to two separate but related programs at one school (not CMU). I was told the programs didn't even share notifications of invitations to interview or admissions decisions with each other.
red_crayons Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I applied to two programs at one school. It's really vague how it works. All I know is that the person I want to work with is in both, and we talked at length about why I'm applying to each department. The school has been totally silent on whether they even received my app (they have, which I know because of Certified Mail), let alone where it is. I'm just sort of hoping he'll get my application where it needs to go...?
