GIS undergrad wanting to change focus to Atmospheric science. Feasible?

Hello everybody,

I am a GIS/Planning Degree holder with a 2.7 GPA looking to change focus and go into Atmospheric Science. I am over 2 years removed from graduation and just can't seem to shake the feeling that I made the wrong decision and want to get an advanced degree to change careers. I will have to take a year of Physics and a year and a half of Calculus to shore up that knowledge gap but i have always loved weather and been fascinated by it. I took a Weather and Climate course in undergrad and have taken remote sensing as well both of which I aced with flying colors because I enjoyed the subject material so much (should've been a red flag but that was spring of senior year and it was too late...). I am actively working on a paper that involves spatial analysis and shoreline analysis with GIS hoping that it would give me a great leg up if it were to be published (crossing my fingers). Is it even feasible for me to be accepted and make that leap or am I barking up the wrong tree?

It's definitely feasible, depending on how you do in the physics and calculus courses that you need to have under your belt. I'd also recommend taking an intro to geology if you haven't already... Your GPA may be an issue for some programs, but having strong grades in the pre-reqs for atmospheric science (and maybe taking some undergrad atmospheric science courses to shore up your background knowledge) will be a strong indication to the admissions committee that this is a field you belong in.
