I am applying to the Ph.D. program in Historical Theology at SLU; I want to work with Kenneth Steinhauser on Augustine. Anyone else applying? What are your interests / who do you want to work with?

I notice the majority of Ph.D. students at SLU tend to be Protestant, which is interesting. Granted, there is always a Protestant contingent in Catholic universities, but I've never seen it be the majority. Thoughts?

I've applied and been admitted to Historical Theology at SLU; it looks like a wonderful program. I'm interested in working with Peter Martens and Cornelia Horn in Greek patristics (especially exegesis and homiletics), but I'd also love to take one of Dr. Steinhauser's seminars on manuscript studies. A big part of what attracted me to SLU is just how deep the Early Church faculty is, actually.

Did you see an actual statistic about Protestants at SLU? I'm Protestant, so I'm curious...

It's about a 50/50 Cath/Prot mix right now, with the numbers balancing out slightly different depending on time period (e.g. modern American has a lot of Protestant students working on Holiness/Pentecostalism topics right now). I think patristics is an even split, at least with the last few entering cohorts.

I've also applied, and have been admitted, but waitlisted regarding funding. I would also be doing Greek patristics, but I've lately been working a lot on medieval thought as well. It would be really nice if the theology and philosophy departments worked together well.

It would certainly be nice if the two departments worked well together as SLU has some serious resources in the Phil. department, especially in terms of Medieval Philosophical Theology. I haven't heard back from SLU, so at this point I am pretty confident in my not getting a spot. Has anyone applying to the Masters degree program heard anything back yet?

Did you perhaps hear anything about the Masters applicants for this year? Have all the decisions been made for funded offers (along with the Phd's) or is there still hope? Have a blessed evening and Sunday!!

I wouldn't give up hope, for I've not seen anything one way or another on the results forum about MA applicants. I was admitted to the MA program two years ago, but with no funding. Do they ever fund MAs? I'm guessing all of the funded PhDs have been notified, since they've told me that I was waitlisted for funding.

Even if you don't get funding initially, the department is really, really good at getting money for people once they've started. Pretty much everyone has aid by the second year, if not the second semester.
