ZosoPage Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 So I just had my interview weekend at my top school. Everyone in my family keeps asking, "How did it go?" To be honest, I have no clue how it went. I couldn't read ANY of the professors. I felt like I was poignant and articulate. There was nothing I could have said better or wish I said differently. Unfortunately, I could not read any non-verbal communication from the professors, and didn't receive so much as a wink or coy smile. Is this standard? Does anyone else have a similar experience?
almondicecream Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 That seems like the average experience to me. You don't know what you don't know, right, so it's possible that other students happened to come across as much more well-read or it's possible that you came across that way. Most interviews don't grill the interviewees in a way that makes it obvious to the interviewee whether they "passed" or "failed" (e.g., do you know the various models for attitude change?).
Le Chat Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Yes. I would say it depends on the program. At a top school, they've been pretty stoic. At a smaller school, the whole process seems to be more relaxed and the interviewers more friendly. If everyone at the interview was that way, including students, that might be odd. But if it's just the faculty, very normal.
ZosoPage Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Grad students were very warm and accepting
