Deadline Day and STILL waiting!

So, it's finally April 16th...Deadline Day. Who else is still waiting for responses from schools? I'm dealing with two waitlists right now and am kind of freaking out.

I'm on two waitlists right now and have gone beyond freaking out into shitting myself hourly. It's terrible. This is the deadline for others to accept offers, and not for people to get accepted off the waitlist, right? God I hope so.

Right. Everyone is supposed to make their decisions today. Hopefully, we'll hear something tomorrow; however, we could be on the waitlists well into the summer. ?

I'm going to accept WashU's offer of admission. It's a great school, and I'd love to live there.

I'm also still waiting to hear back from CUNY's anthro department. I called last week and they said expect to hear in one to TWO weeks...Ugh! They must know I have nothin better to do than wait!

Do you think it's smart to write to professors while we wait? Tell em how much we love them?

It probably would've been smart to start e-mailing them before the application deadline. I wish I had done that.

Yeah I did that too...But I thought maybe a follow-up note was in order while they hem and haw.

You don't need a release letter if reneging on an offer without funding. That's the exception to the April 15th "rule."

Actually, I think you still need a release letter; in this case, however (funding v. no funding), they usually give them out without any problems.

You can still do it, and most schools will release you. It's just considered to be in bad taste. You could, however, position the schools against each other and try to get one to up their funding.

I am still waiting for Rice University (ECE department). Their decision deadline was April 15th, but I have not received any notification yet. Even I don't know if I am in their waitlist or not. I sent several emails to them but no reply.

UCR and UF (English) have both told me that their wait lists have opened up and that they will be pulling people off it until they have their entering classes full.

I haven't heard anything else from Temple and UMass. The director at UMass said that it's possible not to hear anything until mid-summer!

Wow. That's ridiculous. UMass is a great school and all but keeping someone dangling until the summer just seems...well...unethical. WashU is the better of the two schools by far though.

He basically said that if everyone (in 20th Ce. American lit) accepts their offers, then I may have to wait until the summer to see if any of them change their mind.
