Has anyone who looks at this forum worked for Chicago Speech Therapy or have gotten the chance to interview for them? I saw someone post about it on the results page and am curious about what you exactly did and how your experience was. I'm currently a senior in undergrad and am going to take a year off for multiple reasons but still am 100% about SLP. How was the interview process/is it competitive? How were the hours for it? I live in a surrounding suburb so I'm curious how the commute would be based on the hours. Just any info you can give about it would be great!

I saw that too! I'm from Chicago and had no idea they work with post-baccs/aspiring slps/etc. I've heard of the place...wish I would've known that last year because my second year applying has not been successful. I'm replying so I can hopefully learn more info, too!

Yeah I think I'll be applying once my midterms calm down so if they send me some info I would be happy to let you know!

I currently work at Chicago Speech Therapy! It is a great option for anyone taking time off before graduate school.  There is a lot of opportunity to learn more about speech language pathology as well as work with certified SLPs.  Once you submit your application online you may be offered an interview.  I definitely recommend applying! I've only worker here for about a month and feel more confident about my graduate school application.

wow thank you for taking the time to find this and respond! what is the exact location of the clinic? because on the website I believe it said northern suburbs of chicago and I live in the Naperville area so I want to know how the commute would be before I fill out their online application. Also how is the pay if you don't mind me asking? Not expecting it to be super grand but I'm trying to figure out what jobs I really want to apply for during my year off and I'm between a few and want to save as much money as possible before applications/possible admittance.

We are located in the Lincoln Park/Bucktown area.  Pay is not especially high, but it can vary.  Hiring for this year is quickly coming to a close, so if you decide you want to apply at CST I would do so ASAP.  Good luck!

Hello - I came across these posts. I work at Chicago Speech Therapy. The practice, culture, and speech therapists are incredible!! Families come from the city and also the suburbs, Wisconsin, Indiana, etc, just to work with the team. Last year a family from California spent the summer in Chicago so they could work with Chicago Speech Therapy.  Karen George has built a phenomenal reputation. More than one parent has called the SLPs there "miracle workers" because of the results they get with children that are beyond remarkable. They will mentor you and allow you to see what they do.

Hiring for the aspiring SLP positions is rigorous. Since they invest a lot of time with you, they look for exceptional folks. You don't need to be an A++ student, but you better be personable, hark working, have a passion for kids, be able to think on your feet, etc. In the last 5 years, EVERY person in this program got into graduate school. One coworker of mine got into zero grad programs last year, but into 9 this year!! She is going to her top choice. Another coworker got accepted to several programs AND was offered a full scholarship to San Jose State (where she is now attending). She credits it all to her experience and knowledge gained at Chicago Speech Therapy.

wow this is awesome! I was recently hired as a special education assistant at an elementary school so maybe after the school year is over and I do not get into grad school this round I will apply! Thank you!
