About a week and a half ago, I received an email from one of my top schools (from one of the professors I mentioned in my SOP) that congratulated me on my acceptance and gave a basic overview of my award package and stated that I would be receiving something with more detailed information in the mail. They didn't interview me at all. Not even over the phone; just sweet, sweet acceptance. Well, needless to say, I was/am very excited about this, but there is still a big part of me that is worried that it is somehow still not official and they could take it back, or that it was a mistake. I will not truly believe it until I see physical proof (i.e. the package that they are sending me). I remember reading somewhere on the forums that someone had received an similar "unofficial" acceptance email from a professor and then later on found out that they were not really accepted. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF THIS HAPPENING TO ME? that is my big question.

Also, in the meantime, I have been getting requests for phone interviews from other schools. Most lately, my last choice/safety school (of the schools I applied to). I definitely don't want to go through the stress of an interview with my last choice if I have already been accepted to one of my first... but I'm still not 100% sure that the acceptance is official...

Reassure me, please!

It´s official when you get the letter from the Dean / Graduate school of studies, but I don´t think is common that they say yes, and then change their mind.

I would not be too worried about it.

Congrats!

Thanks and спасибо! I feel better now. I don't know how I should handle the interview request now, though. The worries never end!

Relax, you're in :) I felt the same way when I got a call from the professor informing me of my acceptance, and fretted until the e-mail arrived...but relax. You got it!

I would say that it is pretty safe that you are in and thus can now relax--Congratulations! As for the other schools and an interview, my standpoint has been, might as well. It never hurts to talk to other schools and keep your options open. Though, from experience, it is hard to be as excited and interested in an interview with a safety school when you know a top school is interested, but you can do it! smile.gif
