Afternoonprogram Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Hi -I'm trying to decide if I want to take clinical methods on-line at Sacred Heart -the school I've been accepted at is not requiring it -just recommending it. I can decide to read the textbooks and do a self-study instead. Has anyone taken it? I'd love to learn more so if the course is great then I would be interested but if it's just busy work or observations then I would prefer not to take it. I've done 26 observations hours. Also, I've taken 2 on-line classes thru Northwestern which were okay but I got a lot more out of the ones I did in person. I'm definitely an auditory learner.
ElKel87 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 @Afternoonprogram I can't speak to Clinical Methods specifically, but I have taken two courses online through Sacred Heart (Intro to Comm. Disorders and Biology). While I liked both classes, I felt that I would have learned just as much, if not more, through self-study.
PlieThenRose Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Is sacred heart the only online program that offers clinical methods (aside from UW-eau Claire)? I can't seem to find any info.
Afternoonprogram Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 @PlieThenRose I saw that Longwood also offers Clincal Methods -at Longwood I was told some of the grade is based on doing observations. I'm wondering if for Longwood or Sacred Heart the observations can be thru Master Clinician or if you are suppose to find your own SLP to shadow. I've already asked the few SLPs I know to let me shadow them -I'm not sure if I want to keep asking . . .
Soon2beSLP Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Hi. I go to a different school but we have the clinical methods class. For our school it's where you hand in your 25 hours of observation. It's not for a grade but if you don't hand them in you don't get credit for the class. Not sure if this is helpful but I thought I'd let you know.
