WannabSLP124 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Hey guys!. My program starts Aug. 22nd and I have been invited to an out of state wedding Sept. 9th. I'm debating if I should go or not! I keep hearing how busy SLP grad students are and I don't want to start off on the wrong foot, but it's a good friend so I'd love to go! Thanks for the input - I don't want to ask my program because I am afraid I won't sound dedicated ?
Auuudriana Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I mean I don't know for sure but it'll still be the beginning of the semester, so you'll probably be okay to go. WannabSLP124 1
jpiccolo Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Multiple classmates and myself either got married or attended weddings out of state during a semester. It helps once you know your clinic schedule and policies for cancelling clients and making up sessions. We planned ahead and talked to supervisors early so they were prepared. I'd also recommend not saying hey I'll be gone, but make it more a request, is it okay if I miss? Like a time off request at a job. Don't just inform them you're leaving. As long as it's not a habit hopefully it'll be okay. Between an out of state wedding and funeral plus illness I was able to make up what I missed and supervisors were fine. WannabSLP124 1
WannabSLP124 Posted May 4, 2017 Author Posted May 4, 2017 Thanks for the feedback @Auuudriana and @jpiccolo, so helpful to have student's input. It's such awkward timing because I have to plan for it now, if I don't want to pay a fortune for the flight! Thanks again :-)
