betja8 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Freaking out about how dismal my grades for this semester are. It was pretty rough for me and I'm going to end up with C's in applied stat and intermediate micro (with A's in Linear Algebra, Calc 2, and Intermediate Macro). I can retake both Intermediate Micro and Applied Stat this summer and if I get A's in both, only the A's will get factored into my GPA, but the initial C's will still be on my transcript. Should I retake both? Is there still any chance of me getting into a top 30 phd program? I've had a 4.0 in my previous semesters and I'll (hopefully) get a 4.0 during my remaining 4 semesters.
DGrayson Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Not necessarily. If it is an outlier, i.e if the rest of your transcript is good, then you can probably just explain what happened in your statement of purpose. It's important for Ph.D programs to see momentum, or that your last two years of undergrad are really strong.
