I would like to apply to this, but my research may not be "sciency" enough. I do work in clinical information technology, but I am not a CS guy. If I have to pick a technical field in CS, it would be human computer interaction (HCI). Does anyone have any ideas about topic eligibility for Hertz? I wrote to the foundation, and should hear from them soon sometime I hope.

The Hertz fellowship is for "applications of the physical sciences." One of the application questions is explicitly how your research falls into this category. I do not think human computer interaction would cut it. If you can make a compelling argument for that essay, then you should apply.
