International applicant to Sociology PhD for 2008 Entrance

Hi all and best luck with your applications,

I am trying to finalize the my application list. I have been searching the departmental web-sites for a while.

The problem is that not all departments are friendly to international applicants and only few of them are able to offer funding to non-US nationals. I was going to ask if you any sociology (or maybe anthropology) programs that are particularly known as being international-student-friendly and wish to fund foreign students.

All the best.

Cheers.

I would say the Ivy League schools (Princeton, Yale, and Harvard come to mind), University of Chicago, Northwestern, Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), Boston University, Univ of Miami (FL)... But I'm not actually in sociology.

Most of the major Midwestern land grant universities are international-friendly. Think Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, etc. Regardless of location, the bigger the school is, the more likely it is that they can squeeze out the extra cash for international students (so, the University of California system is probably a good place to look, as well).
