Direct Admits?

I am interested in how often there are "direct acceptances," from ad comm to notification. Let's hear about your experiences.

I need something to do for the next 30 days while I'm waiting, like, for instance, assuming silence does not mean condemnation to the "no" pile.

I'm applying to business PhD programs and have had two direct admits and five post-interview admits. Even though interviews seem to be relatively common in this field not hearing anything definitely doesn't mean you're doomed!

Very, very impressive. Congratulations on your results. I am applying to two HR/OD programs and three Business/Management PhD programs, none overlapping with yours, except Illinois, and there I applied to HR/LR, not biz.

So far I got a direct admit into my top choice and haven't heard from the other three programs I applied to.

I applied to 8 schools. Got 5 direct admits, without prior contact with the departments. 4 notified by email, 1 by phone.

The other 3 interviewed me. They were all lower ranked departments and not-as-good fits. I ended up withdrawing my application from all three, since I already had offers from better matches. All the contact we had was initiated by them, not me, and was mostly email based.

I applied to over ten sociology programs, and so far got 5 admits. all of them were direct admits via email without any interview nor prior contact with dept. I had a phone interview, but afterwards that school rejected me.

For OB and social psych programs, here is my breakdown:

2 x direct admit via phone

2 x direct admit via email

2 x phone interview ( = initial contact), followed by on-campus interview

1 x on-campus interview invited via email.
