So, the College of Engineering in my univ. (Boston Univ) have this PhD Math qual exam. I just took it yesterday. There are 9 sections (differential equation, fourier analysis, etc... etc) and we had to choose 4. It is possible for a student to fail just one section and pass the other ones.

Well, I didn't do so super in one of the sections and I might fail it... ~sigh~ Do you guys know how strict/lenient are the graders for the qual exam? I mean what's the typical passing rate for similar exams? I just can't bear the shame of failing it... my colleagues and everybody else did well.... arrgghhh help!

Just need to get that out of my chest, I guess....

Thanx,

the lad
