Aradhana94 Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 So I was discussing my letter with my recommender and sent him a recommendation request from the UPenn application portal. I was a little late in telling him it was just to see what the recommendation form is like and his letter wasn't entirely ready. However, he thought he should go ahead and fill it all out and upload the letter so he did, without using the new, updated letter. Now the recommendation is submitted but I'd really like to change the letter. Is there any chance the recommender could edit/update the letter or will I have to redo the application? Please help. Thanks.
TakeruK Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I am a little confused. If you sent the recommendation request, then why did your recommender upload the letter if it was not ready yet? I think you should first discuss it with your letter writer to ensure that they actually want to update the letter. If so, then your letter writer can check the LOR instructions first to see if there's a way to edit the letter. If not, then you should check your application form to see if there is a way to delete the letter. If so, then do that and resend the recommendation request. If that's not possible either, then contact the application form help desk to find out if there is some way to do this or if you have to restart the whole process.
fuzzylogician Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 ^ Yes, it's up to your recommender to decide if they want to update the letter. If they do, either the application IT department can help update the letter, or sometimes the department will simply ask that the recommender email the updated version to them and they can update things on their end.

A case of not thinking things through. He would update the letter if it was possible as there were some errors. We live in very different timezones and were working on the letter solely through email so I guess there was some miscommunication. I'll ask him to check the writer's instructions then, first. Thanks!

Okay. I'll ask him to look into it from his end.
