elizaschuyler Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Anyone else looking at Arts Administration and/or related programs this year? (Theatre Management, Arts Leadership, etc.) This is my first time applying to grad schools and I'm doing a lot of awkward floundering. However, I love my current job and city so I'm not dead-set on going anywhere in the fall, which will hopefully soften any disappointment if things don't work out. Currently looking seriously at Southern Utah University (my first choice and really the only school I care about at this point) and less seriously at Seattle U and NYU. I graduated in 2015 with a Theatre Arts BA and plan on continuing my career in theatre. I'm a bit disappointed with the scarcity of MFAs as I would like to be able to teach at the college level with my graduate degree, but my ultimate career goal is to be Artistic Director of a company. Anyway, enough about me - is anyone else out there giving Arts Admin a go? Where are you looking? What's influencing your decisions on where to apply?
seizing Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Two of my buddies are doing their MFAs in Theater Admin at Iowa and Asolo. I'd recommend looking at them, too. Asolo is one of the better theater schools out there, and I've also heard good things about Iowa.
UnhappyMFA Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) @elizaschuyler Yale, DePaul and Wayne State are worth looking at for sure. @seizing Iowa doesn't have a Theatre Admin or Leadership MFA. Are you thinking of Dramaturgy? Edited December 19, 2017 by UnhappyMFA
