  1. Yes, I mean Colorado, Brackenridge and Gateway. Do you think it is a good option? which could be pros and cons? can anybody advise please regarding location, costs, transportation, etc for those complexes? Thank you!
  2. @MPPgal you mean also having some source of fund for the first year in addition to the financial aid letter already submitted by the university? Aorund how muhc would be a normal, lets say, safe stipend for living in Austin (considering a single with no children)
  3. Are the three complexes operated by UT located on a good place? it is a good option to apply and try to get one of those? (for a single person one bedroom apartment it can cost around 525 US/mo)
  4. neurophila, congrats! when are you joining UT? Master or PhD?
  5. @tarrman he did not say anything about when the results will be released. So I think for the moment we should just wait. What could be considered a reasonably stipend to live in Austin (single, no children)? @functor thanks for the guide!. I just received an email of a friend of mine who lived there and told me that the best places are north campus and west campus, and he recommended me to avoid east campus (pretty loud). Have you ever think on applying to any of the 3 complexes operated by UT? I should be fine, dont you think so?
  6. Hi. I hold a BS and Ms in PE. I obtained my MS just after completing my BS. Then I began working in the drilling department and now it has been 2.5 years since I started. In my personal experience I did not anything different than that one with a BS could did. Last year I decided to apply for a PhD and hopefully I will enrrol this fall/2013. Havent you consider a PhD instead of a MS?
  7. Hi, sorry for the question, but I just need to know some point of comparison to evaluate what a good funding is..? For a PhD program (in my case, in petroleum engineering at UT Austin) what should be considered as a good monthly stipend? Thanks for any advice! Hope you charliebear can deal with your decision! Wish you my best.
  8. Nice for both of you! What about housing? what are you looking for while living in Austin? Another question. I am an international student and I do not know very well regarding external fellowships. I have already got a RA for the first year (continuity in RA depends on GPA and work, whch sound that it is ok as it will depends on me). Anyway, is there any other funding source? how do I apply? I asked the grad coordinator of my department and he said I have nothing to do, I have just to wait until the results come out to know if I get some other source of funding, it is right? Thanks a lot for any advice.
  9. Anybody out there joining UT Austin this fall / 2013?
  10. Hi thegoat001! Well, I did not that exactly program, but I did DEG program (Developpement et Exploitation des Gisements). It was a really nice expirience and a good opportunity to have an international view of the business. IFP School is well reputated in Europe, and during my stay there in 2009/2010 the group of seismic interpreters won a worldwide recognition, that sounds really good, isnt it?. As it is a joint program with another wellknown university in Petroleum (Texas AM) it is a good choice, you will see. Wish you the best while in Paris!, you will enjoy it and you will learn a lot while in the IFP. Succes!
  11. hi everybody! I just received the financial support offer. i have another doubt: in the offer it is mentioned that by january 2014 i must present the 3 qualifying exams, which means that just after 4 months of beung accepted i must present and ofcourse pass it. is this the same for every university in US? i already hold an MS (not from the US) maybe because of this? is the qualifying exam based in the courses taken during this semester or it is based on all courses from the undergrad major? please help me asap!!! thank you all!
  12. Congrats both of you! I was also admitted to UT!, seeking a PhD in Petroleum Engineering. I do not know yet if I could go for the visiting weekend, anyway I have not received anything about it yet. Actually I have one question, regardgin the financial support? do you know if we have to apply for it separately? I mean I know that almost all PhD students (at least in PE) ara supported financially. I would appreciate if anyone can help me with that. Thank you and congrats again.
