Maybe expand your search to include schools that might offer more? Maybe only having three options that you think you won't get is stressing you out? Good luck!

This is an awesome list! I was doing some research for a friend on programs with funding so this is totes helpful one stop shopping. AND while I see one of my alma maters on here (go big red!) I don't see the the other :[ so I will add a shout out for PennDesign. I completed my MFA there in 2013. They for sure have some full fellowships (number varies and I was lucky enough to get one) and they also do partial merit funding. Plus there are paid TA positions for those who want to teach, and later the opportunity to teach your own courses and now I believe they have research assistantships too. That's not even accounting for the all the other travel opportunities and general awesomeness! Yeah, so updated East: PennDesign at the University of Pennsylvania.

hey all. if you haven't heard back yet, you should check in. i was wait listed. found out after i emailed yesterday because i a was going out of town and wasn't sure if the decision was coming via mail or email and needed to make plans if it was the former. kathy willman (who is just super nice; the admissions registrar person) said they had already offered six people acceptance and they needed to see how that went. didn't find out how long the wait list was though. you should send her an email if you haven't heard.

waitlisted at Cranbrook.

nope, you misread that. on the 2nd they notified me i was a finalist via email and set up my interview for 3/28. they are supposed to send out their decisions this week. sadly, the woman in charge of processing the notifications had a death in the family so things are delayed on their end.

received my MICA rejection via post in one of those plastic 'i'm sorry we mangled your letter' bags. icing on the cake rejected from NYU. there's a story: i called NYU to check status because i'm going to the penndesign open house and i'll be up in the city for a couple of days beforehand. figured if i got in/got waitlisted it'd be cool to see the department. i was told that i never actually submitted an application. yeah. that sucks.

sorry to have mild schadenfreude at this, but thanks for the update :] it's felt like that application just went into a black hole, so it's nice to know they are processing them....

reputation and prestige go a long way with the top art programs - just the connections and the world that is opened to you are going to be different than a less well known program. i think that once you are out of the top ten art programs, i'll even stretch to the top fifteen, reputation almost starts being a non-factor because it becomes 'even'. this is not to say that there are not great programs that are not the 'top' programs, but that the reasons that 'justify' you paying what you pay at some of the better ranked schools don't exist as you go down the rankings list. so unless a school has a really bad rep, which would ultimately hurt you to be associated with the program, you should be more worried about cost and future debt load for a degree that could essentially be worthless. i hope this makes sense and doesn't sound harsh, but i think that's the reality we're all facing in pursuing MFAs.

put on the wait list at penndesign.

nice to see ucla is using the same form letter as last year. i don't know why it irks me, but for some reason i feel like schools could have the decency to set aside a dollar from my application to send me a hardcopy. it just seems so impersonal and like a final slap in the face to feel like they couldn't be bothered to waste the price of a stamp on you. though, i don't have the same hang ups when i'm getting good news. meh.

last year, i applied for an MFA at SAIC and instead got accepted as a prior degree candidate for a second bachelors. i was also applying for painting. i only went for the fall semester because of the costs and the fact that i want an MFA. i can say 100% that the experience was completely worth it. SAIC is a really great school as long as you're motivated to take advantage of everything they offer. the community you'd be immersing yourself in is totally worth it. there post-bacc. students get their on studios over with the grad students and from what i saw of it, it seems like it would be really great for developing yourself as an artist. that said, it can be cost prohibitive because i'm not really sure how financial aid would work for that kind of program and if you intend on getting a Masters it might be more debt than you want. good luck!

got a rejection letter from SAIC in the mail today.
