I meant "they didn't interview everyone" to mean that I don't think they interviewed everyone on the short list. I didn't have a soc background, and I think they wanted to make sure I was committed to it. They say explicitly on their site that they don't interview.

don't worry!!!

Talked to the DGS this morning...said they will be making decisions this week!!

If they're making decisions this week, does that mean we won't be notified until next week?

Just putting that out there so people don't start freaking out as we get closer and closer to Friday.

Btw, I didn't get interviewed and I'm still hopeful. You should be too. Good luck, everybody!!

Will they admit a gay asian undergraduate majoring in English? haha

No. Sociology programs are notorious for discriminating based on race and sexual orientation. Also, Indiana Sociology has explicitly stated that they do not like people who understand literature. It's in the FAQs.

for all your LGBTQwhatevers out there, i'm getting the sense that most sociology departments are full of queer people. it's awesome! i'm surprised i had no idea it'd be a little tolerant haven...

Is most of academia typically considered to be a bastion of social conservatism?

That's what I'd been anticipating, so I wasn't sure about the source of the tone of surprise in the other post. :) Sure can't wait to poison the youth of america with all my intellectualism.

I think you're in for a much more pleasant graduate experience. Good luck with all of your applications!

spreading my neoliberal agenda through America's youth with such radical ideas as "poor people DON'T choose to be poor." Who knew!

wait, do you have your own type of neoliberal? or do we have very different understandings of what neoliberal means? I know LOTS of poor people who have been fucked over by the neoliberal agenda...

I was thinking the same thing!!!! It has to be a different understanding of neoliberal.

Some people mistakenly use neo-liberal as a synonym for New Left. Whereas the "liberal" in neo-liberal actually stems from "classic liberal", which advocates laissez-faire economic policies and such.

migrationdude - that's awesome. Apparently the list has grown to the "dirty dozen" and it says about that particular class:

"Taking Marx Seriously" - First line of the course description: "Should Marx be given another chance?" Marxist regimes have murdered over 100 million of their own citizens and enslaved hundreds of millions more.

gah!

Most of the other classes on the list look pretty sweet too!
