I agree with mildmannered in that the level of expectations as far as having studied the material and being engaged in discussions is much higher than undergrad. Based on my personal experience, the teaching style and work assigned is all depending on the professor. However, I've only had one so far that lectured...all the rest had a lot of class discussion, small group work, and some lecture. I had papers for all classes (sometimes several in one class), and if I had an exam there were always essay questions or short answer questions on them. As far as how much time I spent on assignments, I would say that it was a lot. I can't give a specific number but there were many weekends I didn't leave my house because I was reading and writing papers. I think once you get to know a professor's expectations you'll know which classes you may not have to do all the readings for versus the ones you absolutely do have to read for. Just to be safe, when I first started the program I did pretty much all readings during the first semester because I didn't know how the exams would be, etc. and it worked out for me.

I applied to USC's MSW program by the early decision deadline and did not get my acceptance until February. If you wait to hear back before applying to other schools, you should definitely at least get started on those applications before your decision comes in. Also, other schools might have rolling admission, so spots may be taken up at other schools as you wait to hear back from USC. This admission process is something you'd want to research of any other schools you're interested in to see if that's the case. The only way in which your financial aid would be affected is if you didn't list any schools besides USC on your FAFSA, because then only they would get your information and be able to come up with a package for you. But, if you plan to list multiple schools, then your financial aid will not be affected because you applied to multiple schools.

CSULB- Tuition is between 15-16,000 in TOTAL. I believe all CSUs are around this range. Private schools such as: USC - 47,129/yr (93k total) NYU- 38, 297/yr (76.5k total)

Sociology major, 3.1 Cum GPA 2 years of AmeriCorps service with youth in South LA 2 years mentoring youth and doing a variety of service work in urban communities I decided to decline the offer for the 3-year program and let them know yesterday. I'm really set on getting my MSW in 2 years, and overall CSULA will be a more convenient option for me.

At CSULB's information session, we were told that they were in the stages of redesigning the curriculum and concentrations (I think the fall 2014 classes are actually online now, though, or maybe that's just BSW). Students will no longer have to declare their concentration at the start of the program, but will choose toward the end of fall semester. We will also not be required to do a thesis, and instead can choose to do either a thesis or a capstone project...like a community project with a research paper. From what I sensed, it wasn't so much that it's less organized and structured, but more like this year is going to be like a trial run for the program redesigns. They really did emphasize that students should apply to the program if they wouldn't mind being a part of that process and working with them to improve upon any changes, if needed. Again, this is just what I got from it.

Seems this page doesn't really mean much since I was accepted a few weeks ago but my CSULA GET page still has a yellow triangle. I believe it stays there until they've gotten all your official transcripts and such (if you're still attending school or completing a pre-req).

Amante3, I also received this scholarship when I was accepted to USC. However, I had also applied to another endowed scholarship and called USC shortly after being accepted to ask when I would be hearing back about that one. I was told that they would not evaluate applications for these scholarships until mid-April after all students have been accepted. I'm not sure if this applies to all scholarships!

Just got my acceptance today to the CYWF concentration at CSULA!! I was totally not expecting it anytime soon!
