  1. The rejection was for the modern thought program there, so if you applied for plain ol' English, then don't throw your towel in yet! Also congrats to all the recent acceptances! edited to add: zanmato, silenus, and anyone else I missed!
  2. Congrats to all the acceptances today--hannalore, orbital, morristr, and anyone else I missed! Honestly, I had to block the results page from my search engines. Parental controls are amazing for these things. That, and I self-medicated by binge watching netflix, stress cooking, and hitting the gym. I will admit though that I definitely was less productive during the workday overall because I still kept refreshing my email and checking application sites.
  3. Also a DHer over here so here are my thoughts (based on programs I've looked at): As was said above, UChicago (particularly Richard Jean So), Columbia and Stanford are big places to be for DH. Michigan State is trying to build their program right now, so that might also be a place to check out. Gainseville and Miami both have faculty there who are pushing for more DH (Leah Rosenberg and Donette Francis, that I know of). MITH is another great place to check out. The UC's are also pretty good for this stuff, particularly UCLA, Davis and Berkeley. Cornell--Ithaca is another school I'd check out. For what it's worth, if you're more interested in acceptance + encouragement rather than community, you might also consider schools that don't already have DH programs but are looking to develop them. They're on the lookout for applicants with these skills and are likely to encourage your interests. Not sure if this helps but I hope it does!

  5. No joke about the intimidating crowd! And yes please, that'd be amazing. I think this needs to be a thing at all open houses. Seriously guys. It needs to happen. Think about it. We could all have people! (Also, hey Hreaðemus!)
  6. I got in for fiction! I totally thought I wouldn't get the joint program since they accept so few people each year (I was asking a friend of mine who's a grad student there and she said pretty much what you did, that they accept something like 1 person per year) so I'm just like ??? I'm sorry about Cornell though--I've been following the forum for so long that I've been rooting for you and Cornell for a while now like hypervodka said, this stuff really is a crapshoot.
  7. Dude, you have no freakin' idea--or rather, you totally do because we're all stuck in this boat together. Little did we know what we were signing up for barely two months ago... But, hey!!! Super big congrats about UConn :DDDD super happy that the cheer is going around
  8. Oh my gosh. I got the joint PhD/MFA program at Cornell. I'm completely stunned. Congrats to everyone else hearing good news! (and all the best of luck to those still waiting!)
  9. New to this forum but I've been following for a while and decided to join in to answer >>>'s question: Thanks so much! It was Zahid Chaudhry, the DGS!
