  1. Hey all, I'll be peacing out for the rest of the admissions process. Trying to keep sane. Good luck and congrats to those of you who will be getting in!!
  2. He actually reached out to me and offered. I should have asked him to begin with, but since he's not on my thesis committee, I didn't include him initially.
  3. Update: everything is working out. My 4th letter writer came through for me and he's been uploading recs for me. He's heaven sent, honestly . Anyways, all my of my applications have been submitted!
  4. Gosh, I was obviously half asleep when I wrote this. *Emails and *see Anyways, thanks for the emotional support!
  5. It's all good. Emailed can get lost or be confusing. I'll just try to go to their offices in person later on today. I have to TA today, so i'm bound to seem somebody haha. I slept and i'm less worried now. Sometimes a lack of sleep (hey papers, i'm talking to you) leads to paranoia and and confusion. I'll just chug my coffee and pray it works out.
  6. I know that we have a general interview forum, but I feel like there's something to be said for tips in a specific area of study. So, past applicants that got interviews, what did you do? How did it go? What were the main things they tried to learn about you?
  7. At this point, I'm going to ask for letters from other people. I don't want to burn bridges, because I will be taking courses with all of my recommenders this spring. I'm going to chat with the head of my department and see if he is willing to help me out. It will be super last minute, and I fear that it may make my other recommenders look bad. :/ I'll send another email tonight. :/
  8. Yeah. I've actually had a few programs email to say that they're missing letters. I had another program give me a deadline for when LOR's should be submitted. Another program wanted all the LOR's in by the deadline and my LOR's didn't respond to numerous emails reminding them to pleeeaaassseee upload the letters because if they don't then my app would be thrown out. No response and no submission. I'm actually really upset. If i'm doing everything I need to do, why can't they upload the same letter a few times?
  9. If you take a look at the results page, there was a person from a top 30 or so program that said that the adcom really appreciated the way that she spent time talking about the faculty, program and fit. Then again, it's a program that allows you to write 3 pages single-spaced for your SOP.
  10. For the vast majority of programs i'm applying to, i've read a good sized amount of work by POI. How would you determine fit if you don't read their work? I actually removed a school from my list because although the POI states that he's an Africanist (ad the school labels him as such), he is actually anti-africanist (all of his work argues against that categorization...yet he's labeled as one). Makes no darn sense. I wouldn't have realized that if I hadn't read his work.
  11. Don't let these applications eat you up. Submit your best stuff, but don't invest the entirety of your sanity on wether or not school X accepts you. There are so many factors that go into wether or not you'll be accepted. I would leave the application materials as they are @Yanaka
  12. As many as my credit cards (and fee waivers) will cover lol. I'm like @piers_plowman, the more the merrier to ease any nerves I may have.
  13. Better yet, what can I buy my LOR's? What are good gift ideas? Besides wine lol
