  1. Hello. Is anyone here aware of any sample Boren Fellowship essays available on the Internet to read? I'm trying to get an idea of how people structure typically these essays; I've seen samples of Fulbright essays before, but have not found any for Boren. Thanks.
  2. Then how do you figure out what a generic statement is? Do you have to cite the names of professors for MA programs? I'm applying to an Area Studies program. Is stating that a program at Blank University will improve your foreign language skills (because you don't have any and have no other way of obtaining them in a specific language) or give you needed background courses that you cannot obtain at any university where you live generic? Isn't jellybean's example sentence generic? I mean, technically anyone could write a sentence like that, right?
  3. What exactly is tailored? How do you determine if you have tailored it enough, or if it sounds generic? How do you write a statement of purpose that is perfect enough for you to be accepted?
  4. If there is no formula for this, then how can someone improve their application for next year? Is there any advice on what someone should do if they intend to apply again? I will be certified to teach English by the end of this summer, although it is too late to tell Fulbright that information for this application season.
  5. Does anyone here know someone who recently went from alternate to accepted for Indonesia ETA? Also, I lost the link to the spreadsheet and want to look at it again. Can someone post it?
  6. Wow. That is amazing! Congrats!! Did he say if the money comes from Malaysia or if it came from the US State Department? I'm still not sure that I understand where they find the additional funding for some countries and not others.
  7. Roland, Did you find anything out yet?
  8. No, I also applied for an ETA for Indonesia. I was named alternate in March and then received an envelope directly from AMINEF in Indonesia in mid-April. The envelope had a piece of paper in it that required alternates to check one of two boxes, either informing Fulbright that they wanted to remain on the alternate list or be removed. I checked 'yes' to remain on the list, scanned it and emailed it to the Fulbright contact person in Indonesia and she responded to let me know that she had received it. So, I have been assuming all this time that AMINEF would contact alternates for Indonesia and not the office in New York, but I don't know that for sure. I'm still so completely confused as to how the application process works.............
  9. Did any of you Norway folks ever get off the waitlist?
  10. Yes, but isn't Fulbright-Hays separate from Fulbright ETA's and Fulbright Full grants for students?
  11. I am an alternate for Indonesia and I am still waiting, so I don't understand how they could offer someone who was rejected a space. Indonesia even mailed me a form that I signed and sent back to their director asking to remain on the waitlist as an alternate. That was in the middle of April and I have not heard anything from Jonathan Akeley or anyone in Indonesia since then. Could someone please explain if this would even be possible? Is it possible for Fulbright to give someone who was rejected a space? And if so, why would they do that instead of giving an alternate a space?
  12. Does anyone know if Indonesia will fund more ETAs? I'm still waiting...........
  13. I'm not referring to CLEA. What I mean is, when will Fulbright know if they have additional funding for alternates who are still on the waitlist for an ETA or Full Grant? The information in the letter sent out to alternates said that they would know in late spring. When exactly is "late spring"?
  14. So, I am guessing that Fulbright still has not determined if there will be more funding available?
  15. Are you still waiting? I don't understand how they could even predict that they will have more money if the budget is going to be cut. Maybe I am confused about how this works though.
