  1. Gradually, indeed. For now, the footnote still seems necessary. It's frustrating that we still have to distinguish between academia and queer-friendly spaces. I always make my first-year writing students learn them (and strongly suggest that they use them) in hopes that there will be some sort of ripple effect down the line.
  2. Good point Keely. If someone wants to use "they," that's hir choice, and ze just needs to be aware of the rhetorical repercussions of that choice.
  3. Oh hey, rejection from Chapel Hill. Good morning to ya.
  4. Recently 24. Basically got a rejection from Wisconsin for my birthday, so that was neat.
  5. Ah, that sounds really interesting. Hopefully I'll see you up there! 5000 Candles in the Wind.
  6. Welcome to the club, Porridge! I am also solidly in that liminal space that is the waitlist. Still, a lovely feeling to know that someone wants to work with you. Would you mind sharing your area of interest? Minnesota actually has interest-specific wait lists, to the best of my understanding.
  7. Already reached my upvote quota for the day. i_brought_you_an_upvote_by_sooyou-d4nfitt.png
  8. It just seems less than diplomatic to overlook gradcafe-ers in their entirety; we're an institution, damn it! Wouldn't say no to a monopoly either.
  9. Fingers crossed, dazed; I'm waiting on the same thing. Then again, with only 2 (where did I hear this?!) spots to fill, gradcafe may never hear. Blerg.
  10. Find a place where they don't cry on you. They hit the same place every time. Once you've done that (toward one of the edges), you can jump and throw your whateverthehellthatis. EDIT: Beaten to the punch.
  11. A thousand congratulations! Also, let the nail biting begin.
  12. Why mess with success, right? Eh... Condolences.
  13. Another congratulations for Two Espressos. I did my undergrad in Chapel Hill, and Carrboro is one of my favorite places in the world. A great department full of brilliant people. Feel free to PM if you want/need to know anything about the area. Edit: It's (Not), all the same to and for you.
  14. I think it's probably best to go ahead and ask questions as if you were granted admission. After all, you want to make sure you don't get caught with your proverbial pants down if you get your notification of acceptance on April 14th. If a question isn't answered on the website, go for it. For example, I asked about the funds available to help admitted students come visit, and my contact seemed more excited about my initiative/interest than anything else. That said, the DGS I'm talking to called me, was very friendly, invited questions, etc. You have to read your situation specifically and cater your questions to the sort of response you got.
  15. If not tomorrow, certainly over the course of the week (he said, as if he had any more information than anyone else). That'd be a great way to kick off the week, though.
  16. Congratulations, yourself! Might just die if I got two phone calls today...
  17. Just heard back from Minnesota, and..... I'm near the top of the waitlist for Early Modern studies. Lovely phone convo with the DGP, including my numerical spot on the waitlist. Well within the range they usually admit. Stoked.
  18. Sorry, just to make absolutely positively sure I'm not coddling my phone all day tomorrow for no reason... when you say Friday, you mean tomorrow, yes?
  19. Sorry to hear it/congrats on a possible funded MA. That's what I'm finishing up right now, and it's been a great experience.
  20. Me neither! High fiving a million angels right now.
  21. Michigan... Brown... Maryland... (a continuation of) Minnesota. Over half of my list. Worse than wholesale rejection may be continued radio silence.
  22. Oh, that's great! (WHERE IS MY PHONE?!?) Also, did your website status roll over?
  23. I will not contact my POI. I will not contact my POI. I will not contact my POI.

    Boulder, CO

Is downtown Boulder more expensive than the area around campus? Any thoughts on primo locations for riding your bike out of your back door and up some of the more impressive climbs in the area? A lot of great information here!
