  1. I heartily agree--my statistics were very similar to yours and I did well in the admissions process. Like everyone says, make contact with faculty members, try to impress them with new perspectives on their ideas, and show that you have a future research avenues together. Work on that statement of purpose!
  2. California to Michigan: Hurry, Global Warming (Sorry to all the climate science people out there)
  3. I've been debating the same thing. I wish there was some way to put it off until next year but my department's saying the summer program funding would only be guaranteed this summer. Seems like a good way to settle in to Ann Arbor and meet some other students, but it looks like I'll have to stay in LA to finish up a project and make some extra moving $$$. If I can, I'll try to get out there. Good luck w/ the decision.
  4. I agree with emoley's here: it's a pretty rough commute. If you want to live in an area that a little more artsy with events going on you can try Venice--being by the beach though, it isn't cheap. A lot of students are in Palms/Culver City, which puts you somewhat between UCLA and Venice. If you do try to commute from somewhere farther, be sure to figure parking into your budget. When I have to get on campus and drive it's $9/day for a full day pass in the on-campus lots ($6 for 2 hrs, $4 for 1 hr, I think). At $45/wk if you commute every day, I'd look into living somewhere with a bus route. As a note, you won't really be able to park you car down in Westwood or anything. It's all metered. Good luck with the housing search.
  5. Anyone know about subletting rooms for the month of August? It's looking like my lease might not start until September (that's when most I see start) but I need to be in AA early in the previous month. Is Craigslist pretty reasonable for subletting? Do I need to take care of this early?
  6. Hey timuralp, I'll be starting in Ann Arbor this fall for psychology. How does the first fall usually go? Is there a lot of fraternizing among the new graduate students across the university or mainly among different departments? How did yours go?
  7. University of Michigan Cognition & Perception, but I'll also be working with faculty in social. ammo1, drop me a pm if you're interested in taking about the program at all. I'd be interested in hearing your perspective from when you were out there.
