Bioarchaeology with a focus on osteological analysis and isotopic analysis to help inform on a culture's health, diet, migration patterns, and social structure.
I am having an incredibly difficult time deciding on the best program. I have received offers to the MSc Palaeopathology 1 year program at Durham University in Durham, England as well as the MA Anthropology 2 year program at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. They are so different I am having the hardest time choosing between the programs. Both schools have wonderful faculty and have the programs would increase my knowledge and experience.
I would appreciate any advice about the programs or how to choose between them.
Hello Everyone!
I am following the common thread of everyone here. I have been lurking around the results page and am finally posting here. I have been rejected from University of Florida but am still waiting to hear from UIC, ASU, and Vanderbilt. It was interesting when I opened the letter from University of Florida, I thought "Okay, so this school is not where I was meant to be." My focus is on bioarchy, specifically bone chemistry and paleopathology. The whole waiting period is driving me crazy and I am hoping I have more positive news coming soon!
I have two great professors who have agreed to do LoRs for me. However I am having some issues with my third recommendation. Back in May he mentioned in passing that after we review my research paper he would write a recommendation. I had conflicts all summer and only just sent him the research paper last week (I know bad but it was the best I could do). After sending him the paper he told me that he is going out of the country for three weeks and would talk to me when he returns. I sent a follow up email officially asking if he would write a LoR for me because one of the deadlines is December 1st and I wanted to make sure he had enough time to write the letter or I had enough time to find another person. He has not responded and I know he is leaving the country today. Should I wait until he returns or should I be finding another person to write a recommendation?
My official scores
V:157 (73%)
Q:152 (52%)
AW: 3.5 (30%)
I just got my official scores and my AW scored 3.5. I don't understand how I got such an awful score! Will this greatly affect my chances at getting into a Bioarchaeology program? I am not sure I have a chance to take the GRE again before some of the applications are due.
Hello,
I am looking for a program which could incorporate isotopic analysis and osteological analysis. I am interested in seeing what information can be determined when addressing both isotopic data and pathological analysis of a skeletal population. Choosing schools to apply to is proving very difficult.
ASU seems to be the only school that has a program and advisers that could support my topic. All the other schools seem to have one good adviser but the programs each seem to be missing something I was hoping to have in my graduate education. I have been changing my mind by adding and subtracting schools every time I think about applying.
These are the schools and advisers I am looking at today:
ASU - Kelly Knudson, Rachel Scott, Jane Buirkstra, Brenda Baker
GSU - Bethany Turner
Purdue - Michele Buzon
U of Illinois-Chicago - Sloan Williams
Vanderbilt - Tiffany Tung
U of Florida - John Krigbaum
U of Calgary - M. Anne Katzenberg
Does anyone have any advice about the schools or advisers above or some place I have missed? I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance
Hello,
I took the GRE today and my raw scores are:
V: 157
Q: 152
I am still waiting on my writing, which I know is a big part for anthropology/ bioarchaeology programs. I am just wondering if these achieves are good enough to get into a program. I am specifically looking at ASU, Purdue, U Illinois-Chicago, Georgia State U, and North Carolina State U.
