  1. Last year I received my financial aid award from SFSU a few weeks before I got my official rejection. Sometimes, the FA dept. runs faster.
  2. Sure! I had a 3.8 GPA with around 3 years of experience in crisis intervention, no research experience. I was rejected last year, and attended their re-applicant info session this summer; I was told i had 3 strong LOR's which I reused this year, and hopefully wrote a much stronger statement this time around, but they said my biggest weakness was my experience. If I remember last year correctly. We were told the decision was delayed at the end of Feb and given a specific week to expect the decision; just like this year. But I'm pretty sure we all heard, good and bad, within a few hours of each other, on the very last day of that week. I was surprised to find out today instead of Friday! Good luck! If you don't get in and plan on trying again I cannot tell you how helpful the re-applicant sessions were for me.
  3. Yea, that's probably a smart choice. I'm actually thankful I didn't get in last year, we moved up here this past September anyway and now by the time I start in the fall I'll qualify for in state tuition!
  4. Thank you! I'm so excited, I was rejected last year so it's awesome that after a year of hard work I turned things around! Congrats on UofM! I'm from Michigan and have always heard amazing things about their program too!
  5. I got my acceptance to UW's Day Program today! Go Dawgs!
  6. I just got accepted to the Day Program! After getting rejected last year and then getting the "decision has been delayed" email last month, I thought for sure I was going to be rejected again! Go Dawgs! Good luck to everyone still waiting!
  7. Yep this happened last year too, I actually got the exact same email last year verbatim. They explained that all it really meant was that you were now put into the general applicant pool. Looks like I'm back in the same place this year too....:/
  8. Hi! I applied to UW last year and was rejected (giving it another go this time around). This past summer the director of admissions met with reapplicants to go over where some of their weaknesses in the application may have been. I applied for the full time day program so I'm not sure if they look at different criteria for part time but my biggest blight was my experience. The 2012 cohort had an average of I think 3.5 years of experience. It seems like they really put an emphasize on that, whether it be research, direct care, or community work. They really want you to 100% know what social work is all about. You're GPA is around or a little above average for the cohort. Good luck!
  9. Last year was UW's first year doing early admissions and it was a bit of a mess, hopefully this year they'll be better prepared. We were told we'd hear decisions in February, and most of us didn't hear anything until literally 11:30pm on February 28th. Some people were accepted and it seemed like even more were rolled over into the general admission decision which came around the end of March. I didn't make it in last year but hoping with another year of experience I'll fare better this year. Good luck!
  10. So, I was declined from my first choice school Univ. of Washington for 13-14, but they admissions department had reapplicant meetings where they provided you with notes on your application (awesome) My biggest weakness in my application turned out to be my relevant experience, volunteer + paid. I had about a 1.3 years when I applied and now have over 2 years of part time volunteer/internships at a crisis center. The 2012 admissions profile says the average experience was 2.65. So, I need to find experience but am in a predicament. My boyfriend and I are in the process of trying to move to Seattle, hopefully in the next few weeks (pending the sale of his house). once in Seattle I will be pursuing a job in the field as well as research/volunteer positions to try to bulk up my experience as much as possible before applications open. However, in the mean time I am very limited, most of the "social services" volunteer positions require training and commitments which I cannot make since I will be leaving soon. Any ideas of what I could quickly get while still in Texas or any help with ideas once we land in Seattle?
  11. Got the rejection email, Not too surprised after all this waiting, still sucks though. Still moving up there and will try again in a few months...
  12. When we were waiting for early admission decisions some heard around 11:30pm PST.
  13. I'm in Texas too and anxiously waiting to hear from them tonight but heading up to Seattle either way.
