  1. Sorry to hear that :( I checked my UCLA status and nothing has changed. I also didn't receive any email. Would you mind telling me when your email arrived?

apply yourself doesn't appear to have been updated. the email came with a link to a different portal where you can access the form letter.

i got the email at 2:55 a.m. PST, so sounds like you're still in the running. good luck // fingers crossed for you!!

  2. We all have our regrets.  I have the opposite issue, 3.95 undergrad, 4.0 Grad, but the GRE was horrible!  The verbal not bad, not as good as you, but not bad, but the Quant....It gives me shivers to think about it!  But we have accomplished things in our own right that will make us shine and there is a spot in the program that is right for us that no one else can have!

don't worry. i'm given to understand that english programs typically aren't concerned with your quantitative scores. the only issue would be if there's a minimum cut-off for funding or the like.

  3. Question: I just had a paper accepted for the upcoming ALA conference directly related to my proposed field of research. Is this something worth notifying my prospective programs about?

I feel like others will know better -- your recommeders etc -- but I'm not sure I see how making that call could hurt. Might not make a difference, who knows, but I can't imagine it will do any damage to tell them about this new feather in your cap. Congrats, btw!

that seems like sound advice to me. it seems unlikely that a quick email asking if there's still time to submit an updated CV for your file could in any way hurt your application, & there's at least some chance that it could help, so why not?  :)

  4. i love this thread. no news may be good news, but good news is definitely better.
