  1. Hello folks, I really need some help here. I am accepted into the following programs: 1. University College London, MSc Nanotechnology 2. UC San Diego, MS Nanoengineering 3. TU Munich - MS Materials Science All three programs are in exact consonance with my research interests, and my ultimate aim is for a PhD in Materials Science. I haven't been assured a funding in any of these, and in case I don't land up a funding, what would you guys suggest as a better university/course to attend? The masters at UCL is 1 year, so it sounds financially more viable, plus I guess UCL is more prestigious than the rest? Kindly reply for this has been eating me for long, and I need to make a decision fast. Thanks so much!
  2. Hi folks, I have been accepted into a number of places for MS/MSc programs, and funding in each one of them is still unclear. I have shortlisted the following among them. Assuming that there will be no funding, which one of them will you recommend? I aim for a PhD after the Master's. Broadly, my area of interest lies in Nanoscience/Materials Science applied to biomedical sciences. Personal experiences will help a lot 1. University College London (MSc Nanotechnology, Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering) 2. King's College London (MSc Physics) 3. University of California, San Diego (MS Nanoengineering) 4. TU Munich (MS Materials Science) Thanks!
  3. Both KU Leuven and University of Groningen are traditionally strong universities, and hence recommended ahead of others. After them comes Paul Sabatier University. Don't know much about University of Porto and Autonomous University of Madrid. Congratulations, by the way
  4. Hello, I recently got accepted into UCL for the MSc Nanotechnology programme offered jointly by Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Department of Physics and Astronomy and London Center for Nanotechnology. If anybody is familiar with this course and the university, is it worth going for? If I desire working in an R&D setup, what will be the job prospects once I finish the degree? I hear UK is not too generous with scholarship and funding. Will it be hard finding a PhD afterwards? I am an overseas student, from India. Thanks so much
  5. Hello, I recently got accepted into the Nanoscale Science and Technology (MSc) course at the University of Sheffield. The course is a joint initiative by University of Sheffield and University of Leeds. Does anybody have an idea about the programme? Thanks
  6. Hello everyone, just another one of those anxious posts that comes up every other day, hope you'll have some time to check on this one. So, I took the GRE sometime back and received the following scores: 163 Verbal, 165 Quantitative and 4.5 AWA. I am applying to MS (Materials Science and Engineering) programs, and I particulary target: Johns Hopkins University, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Rice. Are my scores any good for these universities? I otherwise have a decent GPA and undergraduate research experience, and am recepient of one of the most prestigious undergraduate research fellowship programs in my country (India). I believe I would get good LORs, and am working towards a good SOP. Just if it helps, TOEFL result was out sometime back, and it came out to be 115.
  7. Thank you for the replies. The one thing that is worrying me is that will retaking the GRE be considered bad by the university? Among the four free schools, three of them are schools I desperately want to get in. And I am applying for MS in Materials Science and Engineering. So, on the first GRE, I scored 316 and on the second I scored 328. I believe it is a good improvement. Well, what would have been better? Applying directly with the 328 score, or the case now where they will have both 316 and 328 records? Moreover, can I cancel the reports that I chose to send the day after the test to four free schools by requesting to ETS?
  8. So, does that mean that on the two occassions I took the GRE and after that filled out the names of four universities to send my scores for free, those universities will still see both the GRE tests I took? Is this going to have a negative impact that I retook the GRE? By the way, my 2nd GRE (328) was a substantial improvement over the first (316).
  9. Hello. I really have a doubt here about the ScoreSelect option. And the official GRE website mentions it in a very unclear fashion. If someone has taken two GRE tests over the interval of few months, and if each time he has taken the tests he has selected the 'ScoreSelect Most Recent' option; will the universities that he has chosen after the test day (for the four free applications) see both his reports? If so, where does choosing the scores and reflecting your best come into picture for the four free universities?
  10. Moreover, my TOEFL results came by and I scored 115. As the deadlines approach closer, I'd really appreciate some help.
  11. Hello everyone, I am from India and currently studying towards a Bachelor of Technology in Engineering Physics. I am interested in applying for a MS (or PhD) in materials science and engineering for Fall 2013. Briefly, here is my profile: GRE: 328 (Verbal-163, Quantitative-165, AWA-4.5) I have given TOEFL, but the results are not out yet. Undergraduate GPA (till the end of 3rd year): 8.35 on 10 I have prior research experience in the relevant field and have received of one of the most prestigious undergraduate research fellowship in India, and I believe I would get good LORs. I would really appreciate some information on ambitious and fair universities I could apply to, based on my profile. Also, my interests significantly overlap with biomedical sciences too, primarily because I aim to work in the development of nanomaterials for bio-sensing applications. So, should I go for biomedical engineering programs or stay on to materials science? I have shortlisted the following till now: Johns Hopkins, University of Wisconsin-Madison, RiceU, Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, Case Western and UPenn; apart from a few in Europe. Please offer me some advice. Thanks!
